Parking, Pool Deck Layout, Volunteering, and Bike Safety

Good morning Fawn Lake Flier families,

We hope you had a festive, fun, and safe 4th of July yesterday!  We are looking forward to a very full and exciting week of swim team! Please read over Coach Nicole's email from Saturday, July 2nd.  She does an excellent job of giving you all the information you need for the week ahead.  Lauren Stover has also put together an updated calendar of upcoming fun/social events for the the team.  Please read over that and update your calendar accordingly.

Biking to and from Practice -- Please be aware that our board and coaching staff have received several complaints from neighbors and HOA staff regarding unsafe behavior from children on bikes.  Biking to swim practice is a lot of fun for the kids, and we continue to encourage this practice.  We ask that you speak to your children about bike safety again, even if you have already done so at the beginning of the season.  Complaints from the community are as follows: kids not yielding to oncoming traffic, kids riding into oncoming traffic without looking, kids riding multiple bikes across in the street and not paying attention to cars that need to pass, kids riding into the construction circle near the community clubhouse.  We cannot stress enough that it is YOUR responsibility to ensure that your child gets safely to and from practice.  Board members, coaching staff, and HOA staff are NOT responsible for their transport.  We encourage all families to discuss bike safety with their children and remind them to be respectful and mindful of other members of the community on their morning commute to and from swim practice. Thank you so much for your help and cooperation with this.

    Upcoming 2 back-to-back home meets

Please review the map of our pool deck for tomorrow and Monday's meet.  We have made some changes to the layout and ask that you familiarize yourself with it prior to arrival.  Arrival time for Fawn Lake Fliers swimmers is 4:15 and warms ups begin at 4:45 p.m.  If your child is 10 or younger, please do not just drop them off at the meet.  A parent or guardian must accompany them.  This is for your child's own safety.  Numbers will be given out to swimmers up on the balcony.  Please note that entrance to the Clerk of Course is from the side of the diving well.  Swimmers are NOT permitted to enter by way of the hot tub side.  This rule is NEW and will be enforced in order to prevent crowding around the starter and announcer areas.

Spirit wear will be on sale at both meets! We have plenty of sweatshirts and pj pants left!  Stock up for the fall and winter!

A note on volunteering -- If you are not signed up to volunteer, you may be asked to step up and fill a position spur the moment if a need arises.  If you are signed up to volunteer, and for whatever reason cannot fulfill your volunteer duty, you are required to find a replacement for your position and notify the volunteer coordinator of the change right away.  If you have a last minute emergency and can no longer attend the meet, please remember to notify BOTH Coach Nicole (540) 903-1945 AND Rachelle Shields, [email protected].

Swim Meet Parking -- Parking for tomorrow's meet will be tight.  The swim team shares the parking lot spaces with the Fawn Lake Country Club.  The FLCC has asked us to block off 24 spots for their patrons.  Please do not try to park in any of the reserved FLCC spots, which will positioned be closest to the Lakeside Grill and Curbside pick up areas.  If possible, we encourage car pooling and arriving by golf cart in order to free up as many parking spots for our away-team guests as possible.

Finally, the home meet against Hampton Oaks will NOT be rescheduled.  There is simply not enough time to complete the meet according to RSL regulations between the home meet on the 10th and the meet deadline on the 12th.  This means that your child has one less opportunity to qualify for the Championship meet.  Please ensure your children swim in the next two meets if you are in town, so that they can maximize their last 2 opportunities to qualify.

    Thanks and Go Fliers!
